100% agreed! I ended a friendship with a close friend whom I shared almost everything with for the past 2 years. It was the first time I ended a friendship and it was both a shock to my now former friend and myself. It felt like a breakup — which I never thought was possible or needed between friends, but it was. I still think she is a good person, but her drinking problem, volatile personality and the fact that we were growing in very different directions made it very difficult for me to be happy to see her. It’s actually much harder to break up with a friend because most people don’t even realize that it’s necessary or possible. Friendship is just another form of relationship — if you have to psych up to see a friend, you know it’s over.
