Well observed, Chris. I was thinking the same thing when I saw the series of celebrity engagement announcements recently. I think one big reason these couples rushing into marriage is that they know they can afford getting divorced. How many Hollywood romances last? Not many. But are they all broke after divorces? No. They may get into nasty custody battles but they have the ability to bounce back by making even more millions. Yes, love and marriage have become cheap these days. I see marriage as nothing more than “hey we decided to live and have sex with each other exclusively for now. We’ll see what happens.” Is it supposed to last for a lifetime? Not necessarily. We work hard to make it work, but if it doesn’t, we move on — that is if we can afford it and not afraid to leave a lifestyle that has become very familiar.
